Happy Birthday, Speed!
Penny Peterson
(Cousin)
When Connie asked that I write a contribution for your “Birthday Book”, my immediate reaction was oh no, I’m not good at that kind of thing! Numbers are my life, not words!
But then I remembered the impact you have had on my life and that of my family’s, and I knew that I would struggle through the process.
When I was young, I had very little contact with you that I remember well. Perhaps because you were the eldest of we double cousins, and I was the youngest giving us a nine year age difference. You were the mysterious teenager and then University man that I admired from afar.
I do have memories of Mary and I visiting in Watts where I began to know you better, and appreciate the depth of the dedicated and complex person that you are. I was so proud that you were my cousin.
Once you were back in California, I was able to see you more often and request many services from you. I sometimes thought I shouldn’t expect so much from you, but I couldn’t imagine anyone else officiating at my wedding(s) or my children’s. You brought a sense of calm and competence. Both of my children and their families are so fond of you and Connie. Also, your presence and contribution to Ron’s service were so much appreciated.
Thank you for being my incredible senior double cousin!!
Happy Birthday and Much Love,
Penny
