Grandpa,

I saw a cartoon recently: millenials sitting at a restaurant, clearly annoying other guests, with the text "Twenty-Somethings knowing things loudly". I got a kick out of it and it struck me that if the cartoon were of you, sitting at the head of the table, surrounded by the warmth of a family reunion or a visit to Boulder Creek the text would read "Eighty-Something knowing things silently." You taught me the power of listening. Your presence is calm and steady, inviting  and accepting,

confident and curious at the same time.

I'm not only thankful for your presence in my life, I'm grateful for the way you've impacted my Dad's life. You've given me a father who cares more about the world around him than he does himself - thank you.
