Happy Birthday, Speed!
Ellen Stoody
(Daughter)
To my Dad, the only father I have ever really had.....
Honestly I don't know where to start! I think of all of the things you taught me, and the many times you have been there for me, and my children.
I will never forget the time I got grounded (who me!?) for breaking curfew. I was going to miss the junior prom. Mom had made me the most beautiful dress, and I had a date to boot! I gingerly walked into your office, to see what I could or couldn't talk you into. I made my plea, then anxiously waited for your response. Which was, you understood what this dance meant to me, and the punishment could take place the following weekend. I was elated, and realized the benefit of communication with you!
Roofing the farm house in the heat of the summer, insulating pipes, in the basement, driving a tractor, digging ditches, and planting way too many peach trees. I could probably list 100 things I did on that farm. But what I learned, is what is important. It taught me strength. And I have carried that lesson in my heart every day. It has served me well.
As an adult, you have always been here for me, and my children. Whether I needed to move into Beck Rd with my babies, needed advice, money, or an ear that would listen....
You have given me strength, when I was weak. You taught me the art of mediation. But most of all Dad, you have loved me. And for that, I am most grateful.
Happy Birthday Dad, your loving daughter, Ellen
